Anti-Slavery Commissioner

Attorney General Mark Dreyfus has introduced the Modern Slavery Amendment (Anti-Slavery Commissioner) Bill 2023 into Federal Parliament. The Bill allows for the establishment of an Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner and outlines the Commissioner’s functions. The functions include addressing modern slavery, supporting victims and supporting business to address riskes of modern slavery in their operations.
ACRATH rejoices in this development. For many years ACRATH, in collaboration with other NGOs, has been advocating for an Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner. ACRATH has taken every opportunity to raise this issue including during annual advocacy weeks in Parliament. It was once again a key issue for discussion during our 2023 advocacy week.
