App to Combat Human Trafficking
Pacific Human Rights Group Creating a Mobile Phone App
In July 2014 women representing 12 Pacific nations recently took part in Pacific Women’s Indigenous Network’s Think Tank Talanoa in Auckland. Their aim was to workshop ideas that could be taken back to their home countries. In an effort to comabat human trafficking in the Pacific old and new technologies were considered. Human Rights advocate, Suzanna Tiapula, was the events key note speaker. In speaking to Radio New Zealand she said, “There’s a woman who has agreed to author an article on the convention on the rights of a child in Kiribati. There were two other individuals who were looking at creating an app to make some of this information available to younger Pacific Islander women.” Information from the think tank will be made available to women in Pacific Island countries.
