Call to Honour Millenium Development Goal Commitments
ACRATH Concerned About Foreign Aid Cuts
The 2014 Federal Budget outlined cuts to foreign aid. ACRATH is deeply concerned about this decision. Alleviating poverty is one means of reducing vulnerability to human trafficking. We call on the Australian Government to reconsider the announced cuts to foreign aid.
In 2000, the Millennium Development Goals called on developed countries to work in partnership with developing nations. As a part of Goal 8 all developed nations were asked to commit to allocating 0.7 percent of gross national income to overseas development assistance. Australia’s current commitments to aid fail to meet international standards.
You can support the work of ACRATH by writing to the Prime Minister asking that Australia honour its commitment to the Millenium Development Goals. Download a sample letter here.
