2021 Conference

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the 2021 ACRATH National Conference was held as an online event over three weeks. The theme for the final session of the Conference was Exposing Modern Slavery – the Lived Experience.

Flinders University PhD student, Alexandra Baxter, shared her PhD research; ‘Slavery and slavery-like practices in South Australia’ and surprised us all with the link found between survivor and perpetrator. Her ability to share the research in an informative and engaging manner makes this presentation a valuable learning opportunity. Watch the video here.

Wage Theft and Exploitation in International Students was presented by Umes Acharya at the 2021 ACRATH Online National Conference. It highlights the vulnerabilities faced by temporary visa holders in Australia. Presented during the COVID 19 pandemic listeners were reminded of our personal responsibility to look, to think, to remember the potential story behind our everyday purchases and restaurant meals. Umes challenged ACRATH members to do more, to take personal as well as collective actions. Watch the video here.
