Fairtrade Sports Balls
The September page of the 2022 ACRATH Calendar encourages the purchase of Fairtrade sports balls to reduce the rsik of slavery.
Did you know that the leading producer of sports balls in the world is Pakistan, which produces approximately 70% of the world’s sports balls? Other Asian countries are also major producers? Pakistan produces 40 million hand-stitched soccer balls per year; this figures grows to 60 million during the World Cup – which is held every four years.
THE PROBLEM: Poor work conditions and child labour in the supply chain
But the people making these sports balls are usually hidden from view, working in precarious conditions with very low incomes. Twelve-hour shifts and six- and seven-day work-weeks are common, and women and children are especially affected.
ONE POWERFUL SOLUTION: Fair conditions and NO child labour through Fairtrade!

Fairtrade certifies balls for football (soccer), handball, volleyball, and rugby; this has been achieved through the establishment of The Fairtrade Standard which applies to production companies.
