Fast Fashion Hype

WA Fashion Workshop

“What is the hype about fast fashion?”
“What happens behind the seams?”
“What has fashion got to do with modern slavery?

Recently, the Perth branch of ACRATH ran an awareness session on the hype around Fast Fashion with a small group of nine women in attendance. The group was exposed to the changes in trends in the fashion world and raised questions about the increasing world of influencers.

The evening was a workshop that covered issues surrounding the production of a T-Shirt and other clothing, sweatshops, environmental issues and, sustainable and ethical clothing practises. The workshop was presented using the See, Judge, Act process allowing us to dig deep into the world of fashion. We explored the Baptist Ethical Fashion Guide https://baptistworldaid.org.au/resources/ethical-fashion-guide/ to see how our own clothes rated. Those in attendance were encouraged to download the app to share with family and friends to help build awareness on this issue.

The work of ACRATH was acknowledged and stories shared of the impact that the group has had in Australia, and around the world, through the international body Talitha Kum. During the workshop and over a light supper, there was a shared commitment to spread our story and to encourage others to join us. Our conversation was rich, challenging and affirming, knowing we are all called to action to change the world in which we live.
