Minister Announces  Enhanced Support for Victims of  Forced Marriage

ACRATH is delighted with the news that, for a trial period of twelve months, victims of forced marriage in Australia will be able to access support from the Support for Trafficked People Program for 200 days (formerly only  90 days were possible). In making this announcement Assistant Minister for Home Affairs, Alex Hawke,  indicated support will not be dependent on participation in the criminal justice process. For some years a number of NGOs including ACRATH have advocated for this change. The trial period is welcome. It will make a huge difference in the lives of those impacted by forced marriage. ACRATH is also pleased the Government is providing Red Cross with extra resources to implement this trial. Read the media statement from Minister Hawke here.
