International Day of the Girl Child 2014
Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence
In 2011, a United Nations resolution established 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child, a day designated for promoting the rights of girls and addressing the unique challenges they face. The theme of this day for 2014 is Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence. The 2011 UN Resolution stated, “Empowerment of and investment in girls are key in breaking the cycle of discrimination and violence and in promoting and protecting the full and effective enjoyment of their human rights.” (Photo credit: www.unicef.org)
ACRATH believes that providing girls with an education empowers them giving them an opportunity to reach their potential and opening up opportunities for them. With employment opportunities they become less vulnerable to human trafficking.
