Protect the Rights of Domestic Workers
Campaign to End Slavery-like conditions in Australia
The Salvation Army & Walk Free have launched a campaign that asks for the Australian Government to put measures in place to protect the rights of Domestic Workers in Australia. The campaign asks are drawn from The Salvation Army’s direct experience with domestic workers who have experienced slavery-like conditions in Australia. The campaign has 3 key asks:
- Ratify ILO Convention 189
- Grant bridging visas to domestic workers who wish to pursue civil cases against their employer if other visa options are not available
- Provide culturally appropriate rights information to people intending to obtain employment as domestic workers prior to their departure to Australia, and implement safety and welfare compliance checks once they arrive.
You can make a difference by demanding dignity for Domestic Workers in Australia.
