Girls not Brides

Child Marriage is a global problem with 21% of young women being married before they are 18 years old (UNICEF). Unless this practice is ended 8 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will not be realised. Child marriage is a human rights issue. Young girls have a right to education, to safety, to living free from poverty, to good health and well-being, and to gender equality. Girls not Brides calls on governments to ensure all reporting on SDG progress includes meaningful involvement from civil society, to prioritise this issue to achieve real, long-term change and to commit to action by developing costed national action plans to address child marriage.
