Senate Report Released

Crimes Legislation Amendment (Slavery, Slavery-like Conditions and People Trafficking) Bill 2012
In June 2012 the Senate referred the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Slavery, Slavery-like Conditions and People Trafficking) Bill 2012 for inquiry. ACRATH has been involved in the various inquiries that contributed to the drafting of this Bill and also made a submission for the Senate inquiry. After receiving submissions and conducting a public hearing the report of this inquiry has now been released. The Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs has recommended that subject to clarification “that the proposed slavery and servitude offences in the Bill apply to circumstances of slavery and servitude within intimate relationships (including marriage and de facto relationships)” the Senate should pass the Bill.
