The May 2024 Stop Trafficking! Newsletter focues on Human Trafficking and Cyber Scam Operations. Cyberfraud is considered the newest form of human trafficking. The 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report non-government organisations in Southeast Asia estimate there are tens of thousands of victims being forced to work as cyber scammers. They are locked in former casino complexes or vast office parks and compounds under armed guard. These trafficked workers, from at least 40 countries, are forced to work 12-15 hour a day in ilegal activities. The fraud includes romance scams, investment fraud and fraud linked to cryptocurrency investing and online gambling. Articles in the newsletteer include:
