Sustainable Development Goals
Post Millennium Development Goals
At a United Nations summit in September 2015 the post-2015 development agenda know as the Sustainable Development Goals were adopted. These goals build on the work accomplished through the Millennium Development Goals and take this action further.
The 17 Goals and 169 targets will stimulate action over the next fifteen years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet. The following statements that relate specifically to human trafficking and modern day slavery are included within the agenda:
5.2 – Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation
8.7 – Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms. Read more…
