Talitha Kum Coordinator a 2019 TIP Hero
Congratulations to Sr Gabriella Bottani, international coordinator of Talitha Kum, who has been named a 2019 TIP (Trafficking in Person) Hero by the US State Department in the Annual TIP report. In acknowledging the work of Sr Gabriella the TIP report states:
” Talitha Kum, a global network across 77 countries of more than 2,000 Catholic nuns working on the front lines to end human trafficking. Established by the International Union of
Superiors General in 2009, Talitha Kum has reached thousands of people through anti-trafficking awareness campaigns, education programs, international conferences, training manuals, vocational training, and hands-on services….
Before leading Talitha Kum, Bottani played an essential role in advancing anti-trafficking efforts in Brazil by serving vulnerable children and women in favelas and leading a national campaign against human trafficking before and during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Throughout her career, her work has inspired generations of anti-trafficking advocates within the Catholic faith.”
ACRATH is a member of Talitha Kum and has witnessed the absolute passion and commitment of Sr Gabriella as she works with the Talitha Kum network and other organisations to eliminate human trafficking from our world. We are delighted to send our congratulations to Sr Gabriella.
Sr Gabriella was invited to respond on behalf of the 8 TIP Heroes. She commented on the importance of working “in dialogue and in collaboration with people of different faith traditions and with people of good will….. to overcome any kind of ideological, religious and political manipulation of anti-human trafficking measures and activities, promoting instead a holistic person/survivor centred approach, respecting the inherent dignity of each person.” Read more…
