Sr Lea Ackermann

Sr Lea Ackermann, a Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa, was a pioneer in encouraging religious congregations to become involved in work to eliminate human trafficking. She first encountered this form of abuse when working in Kenya. In 1985 she founded SOLWODI (Solidarity with Women in Distress). Her desire was for all women to live independent and violence free lives.

ACRATH has worked in solidarity with Sr Lea over a number of year. It is with sadness we acknowledge her death on 31st October 2023. ACRATH sends wishes of condolence to Sr Lea’s family, the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa and to the members of SOLWODI.
