Vulnerable Migrant Workers
Exploitation of vulnerable workers is a major problem in Australia. Migrant communities are at heightened risk of exploitation given the range of economic and linguistic vulnerabilities they might face.
This research project came about because when ACRATH Members were making investigations as to what was happening re Vulnerable Workers in the Hunter Region and whether any research had previously be done none could be found.
This report provides context and insight into the prevalence of exploitation of vulnerable migrant workers in the Hunter region. Findings show that wage theft is the biggest issue facing workers in general, including vulnerable migrant workers.
As Sr Clare Condon sgs President of ACRATH says:
“this Research report has such potential for a number of groups.”
ACRATH has appreciated collaborating with Newcastle University for this research project. Download a copy of Vulnerable Migrant Workers in the Hunter Region here.
